Nyala-tree withstands light frost but is not drought tolerant. It is a large, medium-fast growing, evergreen tree which eventually forms a full, mushroom shaped canopy. Xanthocercis zambesiaca has once compound leaves which gives a dense shade. Since it is a large tree, we classify its roots as aggressive. Nyala-tree is an excellent choice for a large garden or park.  In our experience, it does well in a large pot, provided you feed it regularly. Use this method if you want to enjoy this beautiful bush veld tree in a small garden. Xanthocersis zambesiaca  is an undiscovered jewel.
