Vachellia erioloba | Camel thorn for sale | Kameeldoring boom
Vachellia (previously Acacia) erioloba is frost resistant and can survive long droughts. It is a slow growing, deciduous thorn tree. Camel thorn is characterized by its longitudinally fissured bark. Feel free to plant a Camel thorn tree in a small garden (for the pleasure of having something authentic from the Kalahari desert) - Vachellia eriloba will not grow too large in one lifetime! Acacia erioloba responds well to pruning and bears beautiful large seed pods after a few years.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-2; Pollen, P0-1; Flowering months 7-11 (8-9). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
