Ficus abutilifolia is recorded in the literature as a small tree (up to 8m, making it one of the smallest fig species). Notwithstanding, Treeshop does not recommend this tree for a small garden, since its roots will wander underground, lift paving, and who knows what it will do to foundations. But Large-leaved rock fig does well in a pot, where its roots are contained, causing it to dwarf. It is best planted in a large, sturdy plastic pot, since the swelling growth habit of its roots is likely to eventually crack ceramic/cement/clay i.e. all non-plastic pots. When planting Ficus abutilifolia, place it on a one or more decorative stones, thus making its impressive roots a focal point in the overall display.
