Bend-me-not (Buig-my-nie boom) is a scarce indigenous tree with a small natural habitat in and around the Baviaans Kloof in the Eastern Cape. It is a medium/small, evergreen tree. Under favorable conditions it will grow at a medium/fast rate. Yong leaves have a a tint of read, which matures into a canopy of deep green, dense foliage. Smelophyllum capense's flowers are inconspicuous. Branches are somewhat brittle, hence the popular name "Bend-me-not". Larger trees tolerate  frost, but young trees are frost sensitive. The species is quite water wise.  Smelophyllum capense is an undiscovered jewel and comes highly recommended..

 A few gardening ideas:

Bend-me-not will make a striking focal point in a small garden. Its neat, up-right growth form and dense canopy will provide good shade. Our experience is that Bend-me-not is not messy and that its roots are non invasive. Smelophyllum capense is a scarce species and, when planted in your garden, will attract much attention. and conversation..
