Breede River Yellowwood withstands light frost but it is not drought tolerant.  Podocarpus elongatus distinguishes between male and female trees. Only the latter bears fruit. It is an evergreen tree which grows at a medium rate. Breede River Yellowwood has a neat, compact, growth form which resembles that of the classic “Christmas tree”. It is the smallest tree in the Yellowwood family, has a non-aggressive root system, and does well in a container.   Podocarpus elongatus will make a striking focal point in the smaller garden. Although not a well-known tree, it is in our view the most beautiful of the 4 species of the Yellowwood family.
