Peltophorum africanum | African weeping wattle for sale | Huilboom
The African weeping wattle tree is frost hardy and somewhat drought tolerant. It is a deciduous tree which grows at a medium rate. Peltophorum africanum bears clusters of bright-yellow flowers, often in profusion. Its leaves resemble those of the Jacaranda tree. Weeping wattle’s natural growth form (and hence its trunk and branching structure) is “informal’. This makes it an interesting choice as a focal point in a large garden. Peltophorum africanum has a non-aggressive root system. It responds favorably to pruning and does well in a container. The latter is an ideal solution for planting a Weeping wattle in a small garden. Peltophorum africanum is a popular bonsai.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-2; Pollen, P1-3; Flowering months 9-3, (11-1). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
