Mimusops zeyheri | Transvaal red-milkwood tree for sale | Moepel
Transvaal red milkwood withstands light frost and is somewhat drought tolerant. It has a neat, upright growth form with darkish-green, simple leaves, forming a full round crown. Mimusops zeyheri grows at a medium rate. It exhibits cream-white flower heads, which develop into yellow berries, slightly larger than the size of a grape. Red milkwood has a non-aggressive root system and is one of our smaller indigenous species. Mimusops zeyheri responds positively to pruning, does well in a large container and is able to adapt to a medium light environment. Transvaal red milkwood is a good choice for smaller gardens. It is a popular bonsai species.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-3; Pollen, P0-1; Flowering months 5-10, (11-1). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
