Kiggelaria africana | Wild-peach tree for sale | Wildeperske
Wild peach tree is frost hardy and marginally drought tolerant. Kiggelaria Africana distinguishes male and female trees. Only female trees bear fruit, which splits open to expose orange-red berries – an irresistible meal for birds. Wild peach is evergreen and grows at a medium rate. Its root system is slightly aggressive and the tree may, over time, grow quite large. Kiggelaria Africana will grow in a container if properly cared for. Use this method if you want to plant it in a small garden. Use the tree as a focal point and shade tree in a larger garden.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1-2; Pollen, P0-4; Flowering months 8-1, (10-11). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
