Kigelia africana | Sausage tree for sale | Worsbom te koop

Sausage tree is a medium to large, deciduous tree with a relative fast growth rate. Its large, once-compound, leaves are quite frost sensitive, but its thickset twigs, branches and trunk offer good protection against light frost. It requires modest amounts of water. Kigelia africana bears striking, large, trumpet shaped, dark-red flowers. The tree’s sausage shaped fruit can weigh up to 10Kg! It has a rather aggressive root system. 

A few gardening ideas:

Since a Sausage tree can become large, we recommend it for planting in larger gardens. Its impressive canopy, striking flowers and sausage-like fruit will make a  definite statement. Take care not to park your vehicle under the tree when its heavy fruit is bound to fall. It will no doubt cause damage.  Kigelia africana responds positively to pruning and grows well in a container. Use this method if you want to plant Sausage tree in a small garden. Kigelia africana is a popular bonsai.
