Heteropyxis natalensis | Lavender-trees for sale | Laventelboom
Lavender-tree tolerates mild frosts and is somewhat drought resistant. It is deciduous and grows at a medium rate. Heteropyxis natalensis exhibits beautiful autumn colors and is also stunning in spring, with its bright green spring color. Bark of the Lavender tree peels off from time-to-time to reveal a white trunk and branches. This growth pattern and look is similar to the non-indigenous Leopard tree's. When you crush the leaves of Lavender tree, it gives a pleasant lavender fragrance - hence its name. Heteropyxsis natalensis has a non-aggressive root system. It thrives in a large pot and responds well to pruning. Lavender-tree's full grown size is rather small - making it is one of the best choices for a small garden.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1-3; Pollen, P0-1; Flowering months 12-4, (1-2). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
