Natal bottlebrush | Blinkblaarbaakhout | Greyia sutherlandii tree for sale
Natal bottlebrush is frost sensitive and has little resistance to drought. It is a deciduous tree (more often classified as a shrub) with large bright-red bottlebrush flowers. It has a tendency to branch low down. Pruning will not inhibit this phenomenon - hence we recommend that you plant Greyia sutherlandii as a shrub. Natal bottlebrush’s root system is not aggressive and is ideal for planting in a small garden. It is susceptible to fungal attack, but this is easily treated with a fungicide. Greyia sutherlanii does well in a container. Please also refer to Greyia radlkoferi.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-2; Pollen, P0-2; Flowering months 8-10. (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
