Euclea crispa | Blue guarri trees for sale | Bloughwarrie
Blue guarri is sometimes classified as a shrub rather than a tree, due to its tendency to grow a multiple low branching structure - which forms into in a beautiful, dense blue-green mushroom canopy. Euclea crispa is an evergreen tree, can withstand severe frost, and is marginally drought resistant. The species distinguishes male and female trees. Only the latter bear fruit. Plant Blue guarri to screen an unsightly view, or as color contrast between other trees. Euclea crispa grows reasonably fast and responds well to pruning. It can thus be pruned to form a small size, single stem, shade tree. The tree has a non-aggressive root system, which makes it an ideal candidate for the small garden. It also grows well in a container.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1-3; Pollen, P0-2; Flowering months 10-2. (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
