Pompon tree is a fast growing, small, deciduous, mildly frost sensitive tree with a non-aggressive root system. It has simple leaves and bears attractive mauve-pink, globose flowers, often in profusion. Flowers have persistent bracts which later becomes redish-brown and a woody. These stay on the tree for a long time, sometimes giving it an untidy appearance.
Some gardening ideas:
Pompon is a "must plant" if you want flowering trees in your garden. Its upright growth form, soft, slender appearance and a deep verdant-green leaves provide for good contrast in your garden. It is also quite deserving as a summer shade tree. Dais cotinifolia requires deep, compost rich soil with ample nutrients. It soon languish in a container. It is a low-maintenance tree and an excellent choice for a small garden.
