Colophospermum mopane | Mopane for sale | Mopanie
Mopane is frost sensitive and moderately drought resistant. It is a deciduous tree which grows at a medium rate. Colophospermum mopane is a common tree in the Botswana swamps, forming a dense woodland. The tree is also found in the Kruger National Park, where fully grown trees are much smaller than in the Botswana woodlands. Mopane has a striking upright form and bright green leaves. Plant 5 to 10 trees in close proximity in the larger garden or park to create a Mopane woodland effect. Although Colophospermum mopane responds well to pruning, it languishes in a container. This planting method is not recommended
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-2; Pollen, P0-2; Flowering months 10-3, (1-2). (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
