Clausena anisata | Horsewood for sale | Perdepis, Perdebos
Horsewood has a small, compact and neat growth form. It has dark-green, composite leaves which have a rather unpleasant smell when crushed. Clausena anisate bears berry like fruit, turning purple-black when ripe. In our experience Horsewood’s root system is not aggressive. This, read with its neat growth form, makes Clausena anisate a good choice for a small garden. The tree does well in a container.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N1-2; Pollen, P1-2; Flowering months 10-11. (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
