Breonadia salicina | Matumi for sale | Mingerhout
The Matumi tree is frost sensitive and unable to withstand drought. It is a neat, upright, evergreen tree with striking, rater long, lancet shaped, bright green leaves. Breonadia salicina is medium-fast growing. It has an aggressive root system and should only be planted in larger gardens. Regrettably Matumi fails in a container. The tree’s roots are fond of running water which makes it a good candidate to stabilize river embankments. Surprisingly Breonadia salicina does not do well in clay soil. Plant a Breonadia salicina (together with some other species) in the garden along or near a running water feature to create a bushveld river atmosphere.
Value to honeybees: Nectar, N2?; Pollen, P2?; Flowering months 11-6. (See blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
